Congratulations to Mark Steven's and the 4th Eleven on their Grand Final Victory against Marcellin on Saturday 16th March at Alphington Park. We had great cricket day weather at a fine ground. Surface was like a billard table considering it was for synthetic. Richmond Union had a supporting contingent parked in the pavilion.
Richmond won the toss and elected to bat. Strong scores by Jordan Foster (77), Billy Hewitt (88) and Angus Greene (25) set the game up. As usual Billy put on a entertaining batting performance! Jordan no slouch himself looked in control the whole time. After 40 overs Richmond were 5/212 with plenty of batting still in the shed.
After tea Angus Greene and John Green led the bowling attack against Marcellin. The opposition were dismissed after 28 overs for 106. Great bowling efforts by Angus 4/49, John 0/28, Billy 2/15, Harry Brown 2/5 with great cameos by Brock Parker - maiden and Nick Latsas: 2 overs for not much. Fellas were on fire in the field with 2 catches to Nick and Jordan each respectively. Simon Bennett was chasing down balls like a rocket. Blake Parker took the last catch of the day to complete a fine day of cricket.
Shane Way (Mouse) played in the side, unfortunately we didn't get to see him bat. Congratulations on his first Grand Final victory since 1981. Shane's contributions to the batting of numerous cricket grades at Richmond Union are legend.
