Richmond Union's 4th eleven won their one day Grand Final on Saturday 17th March against Knox Churches at Hays Paddock. The day was somewhat controversial with the association deciding to move the game from Burnley to Hays Paddock om Wednesday night because of ground conditions. The club was disappointed by quickly moved on. Weather was warm, overcast and the 2nd's eleven Grand Final was going on at Citizen Park concurrently but we still had excellent supporter turnout at both grounds.
Richmond Union won the toss and elected to bat, opening with Wayne and Troy. Wayne made an uncharacteristic early duck (he's made a number of 50's retired in the 5th's) then it was the Troy and Simmo show. Troy made a steady 31 and Simon Bennett made 27, being replaced at the crease by Angus Green. Angus got himself settled looking very solid and made 49.
Harry Brown came and batted for a while, with his usual aplomb making a nice 9. Then Will Stevens came out and despite being put under intense pressure by the opposition made a important 27. Will was eventually run out and in came Jos, who made 11 not out. At the end of the innings, Richmond were 7/171.
Richmond's bowling was excellent, with Knox being all out in the 27th over, only having made 84 runs.
Congratulation to the fellas on a great achievement. The 4th's have looked solid all year and the Grand Final win was a crowning effort in a perfect year.
