It's hard to believe that the 2017/18 cricket season is already approaching. This season begins a new era for RUCC with a lot of off field movement. We've a new elected President in myself Harry Rainbow & Treasurer in Dean Curulli to take over from Shane Way & Ross Couper who have stood down after years of great service. Lisa Rainbow continues as secretary. A Vice President spot has been added with Peter Vitale filling that role, as well as a couple of new faces in Mark Stevens & Harry Brown joining club stalwart Mick Young on the Senior Committee.
With the increasing numbers of junior participation, for the first time there will be a Junior Sub Committee formed, headed by the enthusiastic Dave Sloggett. They are still formalizing the numbers with an announcement to follow. This is great news as the Juniors could have as many as 16 sides this season along with the Milo program, so they will need all the support from the whole club as they are future of RUCC. This year we have appointed Dean Jones as the Senior Head Coach. Dean has captained the 1st XI for the past 3 seasons, a role he will step aside from and were hoping to have some other Senior and Junior announcements soon.
The 1st XI last won a premiership back in 2002/03 and last played finals in 2004/05 which is a disappointment given the talent on hand. So this year the club has organised for Senior indoor training to start earlier than usual on Monday 31st July. It is a coaches squad directly aimed at giving the top end Senior and future talent a month block of training before the rest of the club join in, as we aim to break that finals hoodoo. The squad will be announced shortly, and for those of you not on the list, don't despair as training will commence on the 2nd September. Have a look at our Preseason Training Schedule page!
Finally, the coming season marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of RUCC and we will be announcing details of celebrations in due course. This milestone gives us an extra incentive to make it a successful year for the Club. If anyone has any questions or can help the club out in anyway, don't hesitate to email myself at email@example.com or any of the committee members as this is our club and we can all make it better in one way or another. Let's bring on the new season. Go Tigers.
