Competition
Richmond Union Cricket Club plays in the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA). As the name implies, most matches are played in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, in suburbs ranging from LaTrobe University to Clifton Hill all the way out too Mulgrave and Boronia. Most matches are played on Saturdays, with a few played on Sundays for reserve days or when grounds are unavailable for reseeding. These generally occurs at the start of the season and are infrequent.
Teams
Richmond Union has 5 Senior men's teams, 1 Senior Women's side, 21 Junior sides (under 10 to under 18's) as well as conducting the Woollies Junior/Master Blaster programs. The 1st and 2nd XI’s both play on Turf wickets whilst the 3rd, 4th and 5th XI's play on synthetic surfaces. The 4th, & 5th XI play one day games. Having 5 grades allows players of all skills and abilities the chance to participate in a game of Cricket on Saturday. The 4/5th XI are particularly suitable for youngsters making the transition from junior to senior cricket. Junior teams play on a synthetic wicket. The Senior Women's side plays at Citizens Park Oval or Burnley Oval on Sundays.
Seniors two day games are played from 1:00 - 6:00 pm, while one day games are played from 12.30 - 6:00 pm, with each side allocated 40 overs per innings. Players should be at the ground half an hour before the commencement of play unless prior agreement with the captain. Please Note: during final series, the times and conditions of games are different, so please check.
Training Venues
Senior training is conducted during the main season, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, commencing at 5.00pm, at the nets at our Main Ground, Citizens Park Richmond (Cnr Church & Highett Street Richmond ( Mel 2h B5). Preseason Training will be either indoor or outdoor and will be advised seperately.
Home Grounds
The 1st and 2nd XI’s both play at Citizens Park Richmond ,Cnr Church & Highett Sts Richmond ( Melways 2h B5) The 3rd and 4th XI both play at Burnley Oval (in Richmond Cnr Swan and Park Gve) (Mel 2H H10). The 5th's play at Fletcher Oval (F R Smith Drive, Burnley, MelRef 59 B1 ). Juniors play on Alain Bain Reserve , Burnley Oval and Fletcher Oval No 2. The womens sides play at either Citizen Park or Burnley Oval.
Senior Selections
Senior teams are announced in the Club rooms on Thursday nights after training by the captains around 7.00. The teams are then displayed on the notice board in the Club rooms or via Facebook or the appropriate App. Players who are unavailable for selection for whatever reason should always inform their regular captain or some responsible person at the club and write the details on the unavailable list on the notice board in the club rooms. Note that occasionally teams are announced at special venues e.g. The Vine, one of our sponsors.
